Jae Sinnett is a 35 plus year professional drummer, composer, music educator and a veteran radio host and producer. With 17 recordings as leader under his name, Jae has composed over 250 compositions and written and arranged over 90% of the music on his recordings. The styles of his compositions vary from straight ahead jazz, to classic soul and R&B, to rock and blues, to modern and old school funk.

He has composed music for five documentaries for local SE Virginia PBS affiliate WHRO TV15 and for Cinebar Productions and has written commercial jingles for local businesses, TV and internet web site promotions.

Jae is now in his 32nd amazing year as senior jazz producer/host on WHRV-FM, 89.5, public radio and media for Eastern Virginia. He hosts the popular “Sinnett in Session” jazz program five days a week, which is heard around the world via streaming and he also hosts and produces “The R&B Chronicles” which is a classic soul radio concept with historical and educational production concepts.

As a drummer Jae has performed and toured with his group and solo, at many of the top jazz festivals and universities throughout the USA, and also in Europe. He has performed with some of the greatest musicians of our time, including Branford and Ellis Marsalis, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Mangione, Charlie Byrd, Herb Ellis, Arthur Blythe, Carol Sloane, Jon Hendricks, Randy Brecker, Scott Hamilton, Sean Jones, Jimmy Greene, James Moody, Fred Hersch, Mulgrew Miller…to name just a few.

American Classical Music…commonly referred to as jazz… has produced a long history of extraordinary talent. Jae Sinnett is no exception and joins the elite corps of contributors to the only art form that developed in America along with American Indian Art.

I was first introduced to Jae’s music via The Sinnett Hearings…which remains one of his most interesting presentations I have been privileged to listen to. The artist, writer, performer, or orchestrator…be it Ravel, Ellington, Strayhorn, Art Tatum and in this case, Jae Sinnett…are classic examples of stirring the emotions of laughter, tears, reflection and all the areas of this life we live…leaving you with an experience that remains! Carry on Mr. Sinnett with your many gifts!

Jae Sinnett’s new trio album Altered Egos, shows the veteran drummer at the top of his game as a player and bandleader. The recording quality is fantastic. The drum and cymbal tones on the standard “Remember,” for instance, are so clear it’s as though you are in the middle of the group as they swing! The ingenious 7/4 version of “The In Crowd” and the 6/8 reimagining of “Summertime” are both grooving’ and a display of the musicians technical prowess. The players in the group are all world class and there is a brilliant cohesion to their collective voice. For a clear example check out “Something in Common.”
